Often overlooked, landings can become a restful retreat. A special spot that to catch your breath, to settle in, to pause in a hectic day.
Speaking of. My breath actually caught at the above photo of a stunning Georgian landing by Barnes Vanze Architects Inc.. Graceful, comfortable, and oh so magnificent. I think could gaze at this photo all day.

Gloria Vanderbilt's lovely former home. Where Anderson Cooper grew up.
What a stylish surprise. This is where I'd take my coffee. From the amazing home of William-Sonoma executives Patrick Wade and Dave DeMattei. The House Beautiful feature of their home is one of my all time favs. You can check it out HERE.
From our friend Pigtown Design. A while back she shared with us the beautiful and charming home she grew up in. What a lucky girl! Just the perfect perch for a young girl to get cozy with hot chocolate and a Nancy Drew mystery or two.
Wishing you all many happy landings this week as we head into the holiday season! Cheers.

Thanks! I loved that spot late in the spring when the light was horizontal and a clear yellow. It only hit the landing in the spring and fall. It was the perfect place. Our old yellow lab, who looked like a polar bear, used to lie on the top of the landing looking down into the hallway.
Thanks for reviving old memories.
Oh those are happy landings, nice spots to open a letter or to simply catch your breath on a busy day!
What a window.
Pigtown- Thank you for letting me include your lovely landing.
Oh that light fixture in the first picture is fabulous. I'd love to look at that all day....in my entry hall. :-)
Like you, I could gaze at that first photo all day! Perfection.
And, the landing at the Pigtown family home is just magical!
Edward and I hope you are enjoying a lovely Thanksgiving weekend!
The first image is so lovely!
These are so nice. Makes me wish a had such a spot.
Love the second landing - it's so large!
You've just been given an “I Love Your Blog” Award! I'm a new reader of London Calling, but you are already a great source of inspiration. Thank you for some fine blogging!

Great post! That grasscloth landing always struck a chord with me, it was so nice to see it revisited!
I wish my landing was big enough to do something like these GREAT areas!
Hope all is well with you!

Such lovely landings!
Great pictures! I especially like the third and fourth ones.
I wish I could grow up in a home as charming as this one.
